The ability to focus and the ability of the brain to respond to a variety of situations in a flexible manner are skills that are necessary for everything we do in our daily lives. The ability to selectively focus on the task at hand is essential for all learning but excessive focus to the exclusion of being aware of the 'big picture' can result in a lack of appropriate flexibility.
